Ben grew up in Hamilton, Ontario, and attended University of King’s College and Dalhousie University in Halifax. He got his first taste for synthetic chemistry when Prof. Alison Thompson introduced him to the always exciting world of pyrroles as an undergraduate honours student. Ben’s doctoral research with Prof. Andrei Yudin at University of Toronto included multicomponent reactions, amphoteric reactivity, and macrocyclization reactions. He was a Visiting Scientist at GlaxoSmithKline’s Department of Chemical Biology in Durham, North Carolina and later joined Dr. Neil Vasdev’s upstart radiochemistry program as an NSERC Postdoctoral Fellow at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts General Hospital. He returned to Canada in 2016, joining the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa as an Assistant Professor, and the University of Ottawa Heart Institute as a Scientist.
